People in the Society

The CCC Debating Society is run by both students and teachers, and there are several important people in the Society that keep it running smoothly.

Debating Committee

The Auditor is the head of the Society and presides over meetings. This Senior student has the task of organising what the Society does throughout the year - prepared debates, mace competitions, internal competitions and workshops for First Years. The Auditor for the year 2011/2012 is Aodhán Peelo, a Fifth Year student, Junior Leinster Champion (with partner Ciara Gorman), a Senior Leinster finalist twice-over, National Champion and current member of the Irish National Debating team. In short, he's exceptionally qualified for the job.

The Deputy Auditor is the Auditor's right hand, who helps him or her with the organisation of the Society and presides over meetings in the Auditor's absence. The Deputy Auditor for the year 2011/2012 is Ellen Murphy, a Sixth Year student who has represented the College both Junior and Senior competitions and is the most recent winner of the Individual trophy at the 2011 Aoife Begly Debating Competition.

The Secretary for the year 2011/2012 is Caragh Kelly-Rees. Her job is to take minutes at debating meetings and handle paperwork from the Society.

The PR Representative for the year 2011/2012 is Ffion Kelly-Rees, whose job it is to recruit new members, especially First Years, and promote both debates and the Society itself to the student body.

The position of Webmaster is held by Fifth Year student Ciara Gorman, who is a former auditor of the Society. Her responsibility is the upkeep of this blog.

Teachers
Mr Hopkins is one of the most influential members of the Society and spends much time preparing both Senior and Junior teams for competitions, as well as helping the Auditor to organise meetings and debates.

Ms McGrath is another very important member of the Society who organises weekly meetings, First Year workshops and the Junior Internal League.

Mr O'Maoileoin occasionally helps out Senior speakers with prepared debates and is one of the chief adjudicators for this years' Auditor's Invitational.

A new Committee is elected at the end of each school year and their term commences in September.
